35 Years of BULL!

Where do I start?

What a tremendous turnout Saturday for the Delta alumni breakfast. By my count, we had 54 Delta alumni present and about 40 current Delta Bulls.

Thanks so much to Bob and Kathy Elliott for not only hosting this year's breakfast but also incurring all the cost associated. We are so fortunate to have a family like the Elliotts hosting our breakfast.

The Delta Alumni Endowed scholarship was introduced to the Delta alumni on Saturday and has already received a tremendous response. We are raising $25,000.00 to endow a scholarship that will be available to members of Delta. The funds will be distributed under the sole discretion of the Delta alumni. The money to endow the scholarship will go to OC so our alumni can get the tax deduction, OC will handle the administrative aspects of the endowment but Delta alumni and/or those we assign, will be making the decision about how that money is spent. A $25,000.00 endowment yielding approximately 5% per year will allow us to offer a $1,000.00 yearly scholarship to begin with. As we grow our endowment thru alumni contributions and future fundraisers such as golf tourneys, alumni dinners, etc. we will increase the amount of the scholarship and eventually be able to offer a 2nd scholarship which will be made available to not just members of Delta but to children of Delta alumni. Some of you guys that only produce daughters will definitely appreciate that. We already received one check Saturday morning for $5,000.00 from a generous Delta alum. I hope and fully expect to have the first $25,000.00 by December 15, 2007 to present to OC which will demonstrate once more the strength that exists among the Delta alumni. Please contact me ASAP if you can help us reach the initial goal with a lump sum or one time contribution.

The first pic is The Ex Presidents. The ones who made it anyway. From left: Current Delta Prez Stevens Copeland, last year's Prez Jesse Bryant, Landon Cobb, Gavan Byrd, Josh Brookshire, Brent Heath, Matt Winton, Phillip Maple, Kyle Lankford, Matt Dowell, Brad Avey, Alfred Branch, and Steve Shoemaker.

This year's group pic is not as clear due possibly to the size of the group but I will do my best to list the alumni present.

1st row (kneeling) from left: Jeff McMillon. Mike Osburn, Tom Clay, James Baird, Marc Arledge, Matt Dowell, Phillip Maple, Ron Taylor, Jimmy Arter, Ted Norton, Alfred Branch.

The alumni that I cannot find or identify in the photo that were present Saturday are Dan Bryant, Allen Little, Gavan Byrd, Elvis Curt Coffman, Mike Bosley, Ryan Witherspoon, John Hendricks. Chris Smith and Garrick Shreck arrived just after the photo was taken. I will see if there are any clearer pics of this group photo and if and when I find it, I will replace this one.

Thanks to Josh Brooks, Delta's Historian for taking one for the team again this year and taking the pic instead of being in it. I will include some additional pics I took very soon. Thanks to everyone who was there. Thanks to everyone that is planning to contribute to the Delta alumni scholarship and thanks especially to the 1st alum to step up in a huge way and scratch out a $5k check on Saturday. That truly demonstrates the type of alumni Delta has. We will lead the way once again by establishing the first scholarship at OC endowed by club alumni. Let the others get in line behind us!

You can contribute to the Delta Alumni Endowed scholarship by going online at http://connect.oc.edu/donations/ and scrolling until you see 'Delta Alumni Endowed Scholarship.' You could also mail a check made out to Oklahoma Christian University with 'Delta Alumni Endowed Scholarship' written in memo line to our attorney Matt Winton at:

Vaughn and Winton, PLLC
Attn: Matt Winton
3233 E. Memorial Rd, Ste 103
Edmond, OK. 73013

We are striving at this time to reach the first $25,000.00 in order to fund the initial endowment but whether you can give $5000.00 or $50.00 or $5.00, it all helps. It can be done online or by check and not only will you be assisting Delta but your contribution of any size, if it is your 1st contribution to OC will help OC with its alumni giving percentage which as I discussed Saturday, helps OC to attract foundation support. I know some of you don't wish to give to OC. Let me assure you once more, this money will be for members of Delta, it will be distributed by the alumni of Delta and it is not going into Delta's treasury! This contribution will have a collateral benefit for OC but its main beneficiary is Delta.

This is getting long so I will wrap it up. Several guys said they wanted to get together this Tuesday for 2nd Tuesday so we will go ahead with it Tuesday night at BG Bolton's in Edmond at 7pm. BE THERE!

What a great time Saturday! Earlier that morning I had been volunteered to pull the Gamma Rho homecoming float (a 13'x6'x10' fully-pomped Centennial birthday cake) from my driveway to the college. As I was pulling out of my neighborhood I saw Brother Ted Norton coming down the street in his solid-black-Subaru. Two words immediately came to mind...RAMMING SPEED!!! I quickly looked to see if he had the E.K. Gaylord bronze bust mounted to the front of his car! It made me nervous for a second, but he actually slowed down and followed me to the college so I wouldn't get pulled over for the lack of brake lights or any safety measures whatsoever! Thanks Ted, and it was great fun to see so many guys on Saturday!
